Kubara Rail Crossing

Last modified: November 17, 2009 - 11:43 PM

The Kubara Rail Crossing is approximately half way between The Rock and Yerong Creek.  It is a locked gate crossing that was originally used to service the station that was at that location.   When the station closed the crossing remained as a maintenance access point and was available to emergency services.  For some time the ARTC has had issued with locks being cut and vehicles illegally crossing the tracks into the forested area to the west.  The ARTC has become increasingly concerned about the safety aspects of this uncontrolled crossing and in late June they welded the gates closed whilst alternatives were looked at.  Since then the welded gates have been ground open by trespassers and the ARTC has made the decision immediately to fully close the crossing by removing all crossing infrastructure. Council has resolved to advise the Rural Fire Service of the situation.
