ABOUT THE ARTIST

Doris Golder was born in 1925 and from this time has lived most of her life in rural NSW.  Doris's talent for art emerged after joining a local art group, the Boree Creek and District Art Group in 1969.  Doris created many oil paintings during this time up until 1980, when after attending Heather Bell's art classes in Wagga Wagga, she began working with wool after being shown a newspaper article about natural wool art.

Doris had not long learnt to spin wool when she decided to enter a wool landscape in a handicraft display that was held in conjunction with a "Wool Boards Wool Day".  This project was difficult as Doris had to create her own method, with some trial and error within a short time frame of a week but the result was successful and the landscape was subsequently sold.  As Doris's talent for wool art became known, commissions were received for more and then over the next three years she continued to improve her technique.
