Australia Day Celebrations 2004

Lockhart Shire community has a strong national spirit and for a number of years now the majority of the planning and coordination of Australia Day activities are organised by local committees, with Councils financial assistance.

In 2004 Australia Day was hosted by the community of Yerong Creek.

The Ambassador of Australia Day 2004 was David Butcher who is currently Chief Executive of The World Wide Fund for Nature Australia (WWF Australia).

The day's festivities included RAAF Precision Marching contingent, flag raising ceremony, citizenship awards, Bushman's Relay and Billy Cart Race, stalls, crafts and wine tasting. In the evening celebrations concluded with a bush dance with music being provided by the Tin Shed Rattlers, prizes were given to the best dressed bushman, woman and child.
