The Rock Hill is the best known landmark in the Riverina.

Previously known as Kengal and Hanging Rock, it can be seen from a long distance especially to the north and west. The Hill appears to change shape depending on the direction from which it is viewed.

A visit to The Rock Nature Reserve situated 3.5km west of The Rock township is a must for tourists and those interested in Australian flora and fauna. The nature reserve covers 340ha and rises to a height of 570 metres above sea level.

On the gentle foot slopes of The Rock woodlands composed of Grey Box, Forest Red Gum, White Box and White Cypress pines have developed. The trees become more stunted and ragged further up the slope. There are some interesting relic plants which are similar in some respect to the flora of the Flinders Ranges in South Australia. The peak of the hill is the only place in Australia that one wildflower, Senecio is found. The Rock Hill Nature Reserve can be termed as an island of natural habitat. It is home to a wide range of fauna including grey kangaroos, swamp wallabies , echidnas and various species of possums as well as marsupial mice. Due to the diverse abundance of flora The Rock thrives with bird life including Peregrine Eagles, Wedge Tailed Eagles, Robins, Parrots and Honey Eaters.

In winter and spring on clear days, snow capped peaks to the east and south can be seen from the peak of The Rock. These include the Victorian Alps and even Mount Kosciusko. To the west and north rolling plains and low hills stretching for kilometres are visible.

From the parking area the walking track "Yerong Trail" leads to the summit. The track is 6km return walk. This walking trail will take the adventurous to the top of the Hill and back in around 3 hours.

Picnic facilities consisiting of shelter sheds, wood barbecues, picnic tables, water and toilets are avaliable at the foot of the hill. Camping is not allowed in the Reserve.
